schuessler_staceyI’m Stacey Schuessler, an All Day Kindergarten teacher at Moreland. I’ve been teaching since 1992…most of those years have been spent in Kindergarten. Kindergarten is such a wonderful place where a child’s mind can open up to unexplored knowledge and possibilities.

The expectations for kindergarten students are continuously changing and evolving. When most of us attended kindergarten it was an introduction to school, letters, numbers and socialization skills. Now kindergarten students are not just introduced to concepts and skills, but are expected to utilize those concepts and skills to read, write and problem solve.

Even though the expectations have changed, the developmental needs of kindergarten students have remained the same. Kindergarten students still need to explore, move, play, sing, experiment and make choices. My aspiration is to create an environment that is developmentally appropriate and encourages children to discover the joys of learning while enabling them to meet or exceed high academic expectations.
